Apply through the TAMM portal, Abu Dhabi Police app, or by visiting a service center. You'll receive an SMS with your traffic file number.
Enroll at an authorized driving institute such as Emirates Driving Company (EDC) or Emirates Transport Driving Institute (ETDI) using your traffic file number.
Complete mandatory theory classes covering road signs, driving laws, and safety practices. Then pass the theory test (computer-based) at the driving institute. Practice with our Mock Theory Test →
Attend practical driving lessons with a certified instructor. The number of hours depends on your experience level. Training includes yard practice (parking, reversing) and road driving.
Pass an internal assessment at the driving institute. This covers basic vehicle control — including parking, hill start, reversing, and signal assessment.
This is the big one! Take the final road test conducted by the Abu Dhabi Traffic Department. You'll drive on real roads with an examiner evaluating your skills.

Insider advice from our experienced instructors
Book your lessons regularly. Gaps between sessions make you forget what you've learned.
Don't rush to road driving. Strong basics in parking and vehicle control build real confidence.
Examiners watch your mirror usage closely. Build the habit of checking mirrors constantly.
Study all road signs thoroughly – they appear in both theory and practical tests.
Nervousness causes most failures. Take deep breaths and drive like you practiced.
Practice with an instructor who simulates real test conditions. It removes the surprise factor.
